The Center is a hub for programs that assist more than 10,000 Wake County residents each year. Their programs serve families and seniors who have an income, yet struggle to make ends meet.  In addition, they partner with 20 service agencies in Wake County to assist families in crisis or transition.

Revolver Sales Gal Turned High Fashion Deisgner

Talented is an understatement when it comes to Revolver sales gal and Chapel Hill native, Glenna Teague. A recent graduate from NC State University’s College of Textiles, Glenna majored in Fashion Design and let me tell you, her fashion designs are off the chain.

On April 18th, Glenna showed off her skills at the College of Textiles’ Senior Studio Fashion Show: Threads, held every fall and spring. In the company of 19 other student designers, Glenna showcased a collection of seven pieces entitled: Shifted.

Glenna Teague's Entire Collection: Shifted

In her own words, Shifted is a representation of one of our generation’s most significant concerns, climate change. Glaciers make up ten percent of our planet, yet they will soon become a mere fragment in our history due to the destructive nature of current society. Each piece created in this collection mirrors in some way the shape, color and dissolution of glacial ice with harsh, asymmetric lines, the mixing of sheer and opaque fabrics as well as an icy color palette. Looking to those she draws inspiration from like, Ricardo Tisci for Givenchy. She made a point to get her garments as close to industry standards as possible.

You would think that with such passion and skill she had to have dreamed about being a designer her whole life, but that’s not the case. Glenna always saw herself working with animals. “I thought about being a vet for a while and then moved on to a horse trainer then went to fashion designer. Weird right?”

Her interest in fashion and design began her sophomore year of high school when she took an apparel development class. Understanding the basics of sewing and the complexity of garment construction, she began to imagine herself as a fashion designer.

On Saturday, April 18th, after months of preparation, the Senior Studio collections were revealed. The excitement could be felt beneath the sound of flashing cameras hypnotic music. Each collection had a distinct vision  and exuded the personality of it’s designer.

Are you wondering if this story has a happy ending? Because it absolutely does. Glenna was the first place winner of the Threads Collective runway show!

After a week at the beach celebrating with fellow designers and friends, Glenna is ready to start her career as a technical designer for a women’s clothing brand. To contact Glenna about a potential gig, email her at geteague@ncsu.edu
